Garrison McLaney is The Towson Tutor
M. Ed.
Garrison’s Story:
After completing her degree in elementary education from Towson University, Garrison promptly immersed herself in teaching first and second grade in Baltimore City and in a master’s degree program at Johns Hopkins University. Several years later, when she had her own children, she taught closer to home at two independent schools with a focus on meeting the learning needs of students with language learning differences. At the Jemicy School, Garrison honed her skills in Orton Gillingham, a multisensory approach to language skills.
When her own daughter was diagnosed with ADD and POTS, Garrison chose to homeschool for a time while medical issues were most pressing. It was during this time that the tutoring business sprouted. Being able to provide much-needed individual instruction to students needing support in reading and writing brings Garrison joy. She aims to share her joy with her students every day.

Dexter
Mascot
Dexter’s story:
When we first fostered Dexter he was 6 to 8 months old and already showing his true signature move, laying on his back for belly rubs. He was so sweet we had to adopt him and have loved having him as a part of our family. He was certified as a therapy dog and went to work with me daily at Jemicy. He loves children and especially enjoys being read to.
Fun Fact About Dexter:
Dexter loves long hikes in the woods with his family.
Oliver
Mascot
Oliver’s story:
Oliver is a two-year-old parakeet who came from a loving home in College Park, Maryland. He was 12 weeks old when we got him, the perfect age for training. Being a reading and writing tutor, of course, Garrison has taught Oliver numerous phrases and words. Students often hear him say, ¨such a pretty bird,¨ ¨Oliver,¨ and ¨Hi there¨
Fun Fact About Oliver:
Oliver says ¨Dexter,¨ the dog’s name, more often than anything else he says!
